Rightmove photo requirements
Size, format, how many photos, and what Rightmove says about AI and virtually staged images. Every line below is quoted from Rightmove's own documents, read on 26 September 2026, and linked at the bottom of the page.

In practice: export at 1024 x 683 px, JPEG, under 1 MB. Anything larger is scaled down by Rightmove, and anything that is not 3:2 is shown with gaps or a crop you did not choose. Resize a whole listing to 1024 x 683 for free, in your browser.
Which document says what
Rightmove does not publish one page of image specifications. The rules sit in three places. The Agent and Developer Technical Guidelines (January 2026) are the binding ones: they set what an image may show. The customer FAQ gives the display sizes. The format and minimum size are stated in Rightmove's FAQ for overseas advertisers, and the data-feed limits in the Real Time Data Feed specification used by property software. Rightmove does not publish a separate file-size cap or photo count for manual uploads in Rightmove Plus, so this page does not invent one.
AI and virtually staged photos: the rule
Section 10 of the guidelines sorts edits into two kinds. Light Touch Edits are “cropping, brightness/contrast adjustments, colour balance, shadow lifting and warming tones”. Enhanced Edits are content “generated and/or manipulated by AI”, CGI, or manual changes “such as adding or removing objects”. Virtual staging is an Enhanced Edit.
Both are permitted, “provided that these adjustments/enhancements do not misrepresent the property”. An Enhanced Edit must then be:
- “accompanied by current, accurate images of the room and/or property”; and
- “clearly labelled as being AI or otherwise enhanced”.
Rightmove reserves the right to remove any content it reasonably believes does not comply. Two obligations, not one: the one agents forget is the photo of the room as it really is.
Text, watermarks and borders
Section 29 is where the tension sits. It says “images must not contain text”, with one exception: an arrow or outline to show where the property is, in a drone shot for example. It allows “CGI / AI augmented images, subject to paragraph 10”. Borders, banners, corner flashes, composite images and logos unrelated to the property are listed as misuse.
A watermark is allowed only if it is white and translucent, no larger than a quarter of the image, at 30% opacity or lower, and used “only for the purpose of preventing image copyright” with “no further messaging”. Our free watermark tool has a Rightmove-safe setting that enforces the first three.
Read together, the label section 10 asks for is safest in the image caption, not burned into the pixels. Through a data feed, every image has a caption field that Rightmove displays [3]. The guidelines do not settle the point in writing; if you want certainty for your branch, ask your Rightmove account manager.
Zoopla and OnTheMarket
We could not read Zoopla's or OnTheMarket's image rules at the source on the day of writing, so we state nothing about them. If you list on all three, the Rightmove rule is a sound default: label the image, and put the real photo next to it.
How Roomstill produces what Rightmove asks for

- Nothing structural moves. Walls, windows, doors, framing and light are held in every request sent to the engine. That is what “do not misrepresent the property” means in a photo.
- Export at 1024 px or more on the long side and crop to 3:2 in your usual editor before upload; Rightmove scales down the rest.

Questions agents ask
What size should photos be for Rightmove?
A 3:2 ratio. Rightmove accepts images up to 1024 px in width or height, so a landscape photo is shown at up to 1024 x 683 px. Search results use 224 x 149 px and the main gallery 656 x 437 px. Larger files are resized for you.
What file format does Rightmove accept?
JPEG. Rightmove's overseas FAQ asks for .jpeg files, ideally 1 MB or less each, at least 656 x 437 pixels. Through a data feed the limit is 20 MB per image.
How many photos can you put on Rightmove?
Rightmove's overseas FAQ says as many as you like and recommends 7 to 30. A data feed can send up to 999 pieces of media per property, with at most 10 images linked to one room. No separate cap is published for Rightmove Plus.
Can you use AI or virtually staged photos on Rightmove?
Yes, if they do not misrepresent the property. Section 10 of the Technical Guidelines requires each one to be accompanied by current, accurate images of the room and clearly labelled as AI or otherwise enhanced.
Can you put text or a watermark on Rightmove photos?
No text, except an arrow or outline to show a location. A watermark must be white, translucent, at most a quarter of the image, at 30% opacity or lower, with no messaging beyond copyright protection.
