Crop to fill, or fit without cropping
Crop to fill gives every photo the exact size of the portal, cutting the same amount from both sides of the longer edge: nothing is stretched, and the photos line up in the gallery. Fit, no crop keeps the whole frame and shrinks it until it fits inside the portal’s size, so one side may come out shorter. Use it for a photo whose edges matter, a floor plan for example.
What the resizer never does
It never enlarges. A photo smaller than the portal’s size keeps its own size, takes the right proportions, and is flagged in the list: enlarging adds no detail, it only adds blur that the portal will then show in full. It never stretches either. And the photo is never uploaded: the resizing happens in your browser, which also means the GPS position stored in the original file is not copied into the new one.
Portrait photos get the same size turned on its side, as Zoopla spells out (768 x 1024). Photos shot sideways are turned upright first, using the rotation the camera recorded: Zillow lists sideways photos among its most common upload problems.
Questions people ask
What size should photos be for Rightmove?
Rightmove displays images up to 1024 px in width or height in a 3:2 ratio, so a landscape photo is shown at up to 1024 x 683 px. Its overseas FAQ asks for JPEG files of ideally 1 MB or less, at least 656 x 437 px.
What size should photos be for Zoopla?
Zoopla’s member help centre gives 1024 x 768 px as the optimum for landscape images and 768 x 1024 for portrait, with a minimum of 645 x 430 and 5 MB at most. The same page also asks for a 3:2 ratio, which 1024 x 768 is not; the Rightmove size meets both of Zoopla’s other rules.
What size should photos be for Zillow?
Zillow’s help center suggests 1536 x 1152 px for best quality, with a minimum of 330 x 220 px. Files must be under 50 MB, and Zillow suggests 10 MB.
What size should photos be for Airbnb?
Airbnb’s help center says photos should be at least 1024 x 683 pixels. It gives a minimum rather than a target size, so this tool does not shrink Airbnb photos: it converts them to upright JPEGs and flags any photo below the minimum.
